Abstract

Innovation is what the world needs currently in the agricultural sector given that may of the technologies used before are becoming less effective and efficient as a result of changing times, different uncertainties around the world as well as increasing population and pressure on productive land.  Based on a research (own research)  done at Mbooni Sub county, Makueni County Kenya on ensuring profitability of maize beans among small scale farmersvarious players have to be involved for success to be attained in the sector.  The government is the key player for it has the ability to coordinate as well as providing conducive environment for private sectors,  research institutions as well as farmers.  These players have to work together to ensure the right policies are put in place, up to date technologies are used as well as ensuring sustainable resource management it's achieved. The research institutions can drive the country forward in the innovation sector while the private sectors highly contributes in various way example employment opportunities,  research as well as economic growth and development. By ensuring a farmer centric approach is used to ensure a good relationship between the research institution,  agricultural extension officers and the farmers the country will be in a good position to attain food security as well as transformative agri- food systems.
